About Us...
Our mission is to make Mental Wellness a priority by facilitating open discussions and teaching personal development techniques.
Our workshops are led by qualified mental health and wellness professionals. We are dedicated Mental Wellness advocates who are passionate about providing a safe space that we wished existed when we were younger. We feel that our time, experience, and education are only useful if we have an opportunity to share them with those who would benefit from them.

Gina Naumov, MA, LPC, NCC, CCTP-II
New Start Groups Founding President/CEO
Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor
Level-II Certified Clinical Trauma Professional

I fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a
Board Certified Licensed Professional
Counselor and pushed further to become a
Level-II Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.
With over 20 years in the mental health field,
my work as a psychotherapist is shaped by
both professional training and personal
experience. As a survivor of childhood abuse,
I understand what it feels like to carry pain
silently and how transformative it can be to
finally feel safe, seen, and supported.

With limited and subpar mental health resources, I became frustrated and didn't feel comfortable referring my patients through the revolving doors of the mental health resources that existed. The dream of creating a Nonprofit Organization lived in my mind for a decade. It took one serendipitous encounter with a special person named Annemarie, who believed in my vision and helped me find the confidence to bring it to life - and now, many more do. I'm proud of what we're building and grateful for every person who walks through our doors. Together, we're creating a community where Mental Wellness isn't a luxury, it's a shared priority.

Nicole Cherbakova, BA, MA
New Start Groups Board Secretary
MA in Social Work

My name is Nicole, and I have a Bachelor of
Arts degree in psychology from William
Paterson University. I am a recent graduate
of Rutgers University, with a Master's degree
in Social Work. I plan to do therapy with
children and teenagers, once I become a
Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Beginning
therapy at a young age is more effective
than starting later.

I joined Gina in facilitating workshops at New Start Groups from its founding in July 2022. I have struggled with mental health since I was a teenager and was always searching for a safe space that was cost-free, as I did not have a steady income. As I started facilitating workshops with Gina, I felt excited and grateful to be able to provide an accessible, safe space for other people. I have loved getting to know and learning from everyone who has attended our workshops. I look forward to cultivating new relationships and opportunities that come our way.

Leah Davis, BA
New Start Groups Volunteer
BA in Psychological and Social Sciences

My name is Leah Davis, and I have a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychological
and Social Sciences, and a minor in
Sociology from The Pennsylvania State
University. I am currently pursuing a
Master's in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
My ultimate goal as a mental health
advocate is to create a safe space where I
can encourage individual differences and foster a sense of empowerment in other people.
I joined New Start Groups as a Social Media and Workshop Volunteer in the summer of 2025. Before that summer, I'd never heard of New Start Groups. But when I glanced at the website, it all felt familiar to me. Part of me was scared to push forward with this new opportunity, but after speaking with Gina, I saw a chance to be involved in something bigger than myself. Working on social media allows me to promote mental wellness and inspire/comfort people who need it but weren't actively searching. For the past five years, I've thought about making separate accounts dedicated to wellness posts--but I never did it. Now, I am achieving this goal through New Start Groups. And by helping with the workshops, I am actively engaging with a new community instead of sticking to what I already know.
Not only do I look forward to seeing how I blossom, but also to my impact on other people.

Growing Our Vision...
Are we really taking care of ourselves and each other when we mindlessly ask "How are you?" and end our interactions with a generic "Take care of yourself"? It's time to start taking these phrases seriously and truly prioritize our physical and mental wellness.
Investing in your physical and mental wellness is crucial, but unfortunately, it's not always accessible to everyone. Expensive organic foods, gym memberships, spas, traditional or holistic therapy, and psychiatric help are often only available to those who can afford them. This leaves many individuals without the support they need to thrive.
Mental Health Awareness is a bandwagon that many have jumped on, with mental illness and psychotropic medications being attached to it. That is why we focus on making Mental Wellness a priority by facilitating honest discussions and teaching personal development techniques to everyone; No diagnosis required.
While we do not provide Group Therapy, we invite our participants to share their stories, receive encouragement, and work towards their dreams and aspirations. And the best part? We offer these workshops for free, because we believe that everyone needs a safe space to openly discuss their anxiety and depression as well as their annoying boss and everyday life stressors.

New Start Groups has significant goals ahead and requires your assistance to raise awareness about our mission and the positive influence we have on the community. Your contributions, along with the funds generated from our low-cost Mental Wellness Fundraiser Events, are essential for building our future plans. We are working towards securing a larger space where we can offer low-cost services such as a salt room, light therapy, and much more.
It is important to note that our Board Members and Volunteer Facilitators are not compensated, as New Start Groups operates entirely as a Nonprofit Organization reliant on your generosity to sustain our public service.

If you resonate with our mission, I encourage you to make a donation and/or complete our Volunteer Application today. Together, we can foster a community where no one has to endure their struggles alone.
